What Elmwood is about

Elmwood is a family owned nursery where we have been educating children in the heart of Newton Mearns for over 16 years. The nursery is set in an old house which captures the essence of what Elmwood is about – a safe and loving environment, ‘a home away from home’, where parents can leave their children to go to work safe in the knowledge that their child is being cared for and educated to the very highest standard.

Our educational programme of activities is planned daily for all ages following the 'Pre Birth to Three' Document for our younger children and the 'Curriculum for Excellence' for our older children. All learning experiences are planned by our extremely well trained team to ensure they are varied, stimulating and challenging and above all fun!

Communication links between nursery and home are extremely important and these are offered in a variety of ways to ensure that parents are kept informed. Every parent is given a daily feedback session at our handover at the end of the day, and of course we use the usual channels such as emails and newsletters.  Our recent introduction of our online profiling system has been a great success giving parents the opportunity to log on any time, anywhere to catch up on what their child has been learning at nursery.  If parents miss that important email informing them of upcoming events they can log on to our private parent portal on our website where all current information is at their finger tips.

Elmwood is registered with and regulated by the Care Inspectorate so all areas; environment, equipment, staffing and learning experiences adhere to the 'National Care Standards', 'GIRFEC' and 'Child at the Centre 2' Documents.

Partnership Funding

We hold East Renfrewshire Partnership Status, the council has an extremely rigorous scrutiny process allowing only a few select private nurseries to hold this status. The main benefit to our parents is the access to government funding for 3 & 4 year olds attending Elmwood. The funding available per child can be as much as £2,100 for the year 2016/17 towards their nursery fees. Partnership status also gives us access to weekly term time visits from our East Renfrewshire Partnership teacher and support to ensure we maintain high educational standards.

Government Voucher Scheme

Parents can take advantage of the Childcare Voucher Scheme which is a simple and cost-effective way for parents to save money on childcare costs. A childcare voucher scheme can only be used as part of an employee benefit provided by an employer. Employees can choose to apportion up to £243 per month of their salary to childcare vouchers that does not attract tax or National Insurance.
